Marketing Myths Debunked

So here we are, the last stretch of 2020! How did we get here??

This is also the last episode of Let’s Make Waves Podcast for 2020! Honestly, I thought of creating an episode reviewing top business lessons we can take from this year, or planning for the new year and how to begin 2021 with the full intention of building a personal brand and expanding your small business.

So many ideas came, but I finally settled on this… and let me give you a bit of a background first…

Almost everytime I meet someone new who is a small business owner or has a practice (and they find out that I come from a marketing background), I get one of 2 responses:

The first is: Marketing is over rated. It is not a requirement!

The second is: Marketing is EVERYTHING and is “the magic pill” to realizing dreams, making and growing a business.

I don’t mind being seen as a super hero *wink* with the magic pill but truth is, the conversation then moves to questions and statements that are based on marketing myths that somehow have been circulating and so many small business owners believe in them. 

Based on that, I want this episode to be all about the typical comments and statements I receive, mostly myths or misconceptions that I want to debunk. I think this is the right topic to end 2020 because I want to share with you the right information about the power of marketing and personal branding, that can help you transform your business and support it, grow it and make it viable. 

I want to encourage you to rethink your strategies for your businesses in 2021. Use this information to help you look at your budgets and efforts and plan a more powerful approach.

Some of the myths include:  

  • I use social media for my business, so I don’t need a website
  • Marketing and Advertising are the same thing
  • If my product or service is good enough, there’s no need to market it – it will sell itself
  • The more customer types I target, the more I will sell
  • Marketing is a waste of money
  • Email Marketing is dead
  • The bigger my marketing budget, the more customers I’ll get
  • If it works for them. It will work for us
